Spider-Man: the little things
  • The hospital scene where Doc Ock's cybernetic arms go berserk and attack the doctors - Pure Evil Dead, with quick cuts, sudden zooms in on faces, and high speed shaky-cam dollying. The chainsaw even seemed to be a reference to Evil Dead 2. A fun bit of self-indulgence and self-reference by Raimi, and proof that he hasn't lost his knack for hyperkinetic horror after all these years.
  • The obnoxious usher - Bruce Campbell = awesome.
  • Stan Lee saves the day! - Blink and you'll miss him, but during the fight outside of the bank, Stan Lee grabs a woman and pulls her out of the way of a falling chunk of masonry. Sadly, this is the coolest thing Lee has done in years.
  • Pete's landlord - Check the last name. Heh heh heh heh...

If you see SM2 with a freind, make sure they're a fan of Raimi or the film's little bits won't be appreciated. I leaned over when Peter walked into the playhouse's foyer and said, 'There's Bruce!' His response, 'Where's the chainsaw?' Perfect. The lovely chromed saws in the operating room were a hoot.

Didn't spot Stan's cameo or the landlord's name, guess I'll have to see it again...and again...and again.

Gotta love Doc Oc's sense of style. The man wears a fedora well.

Yeah, what was the landlord's name?

Mr. Ditkovitch

Spider-Man was, of course, co-created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

Oddly enough, I did spot Stan Lee, but didn't recognize Bruce Campbell - though now that you mention that in retrospect I can see that was him.

Didn't catch the reference in the landlord's name, either, but I guess that one's more obvious seeing the name in writing (I just checked the IMDB listing) than hearing it spoken. Though even seeing the name in writing I'm not sure I would have gotten it had I not known there was something to "get". Oh, well.

I only noticed the landlord's name during the end credits.

OMG, you are SO right!

I didn't even recognize Bruce Campell - he's put on some weight. ;)

And the Dcotor scene was a *great* flahsback to ED. :)
